Two Delta Airlines Planes Collide on Atlanta Airport Runway

Two Delta airplanes reportedly collided on the airport runway in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday morning.
On X, formerly Twitter, Flightradar24 wrote, “Based on playback, it appears to be a ground collision between a Delta A350 and Delta Connection CRJ-900 that resulted in the vertical and horizontal stabilizer of the CRJ being severed from the aircraft.”
Jason Adams, a meteorologist with ABC affiliate station WFTS-TV in Tampa, Florida, said he was aboard one of the aircraft. He also shared a series of posts on X that detailed the incident.

“Taxiing out for the flight from Atlanta to Louisiana and another plane appears to have clipped the back of our plane. Very jarring, metal scraping sounds then loud bangs. We’re fine. No fire or smoke. Awaiting @Delta instructions,” Adams wrote in one post.
Adams also shared several other photos on social media showing the incident and the damage sustained by the two planes.
In a statement on their website, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) wrote, “While Delta Air Lines Flight 295 was taxiing for departure at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, its wingtip struck the tail of Endeavor Air Flight 5526. The Delta Airbus A350 was headed to Tokyo.”
“The Endeavor Bombardier CRJ900 was headed to Lafayette, Louisiana. The FAA will investigate the incident, which occurred at the intersection of two taxiways around 10:10 a.m. local time on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Please contact the airlines for additional information,” the statement added.

In a statement to Newsweek, a spokesperson for Delta said, “There have been no reported injuries at this time and customers are being transported back to the terminal where they will be reaccommodated on alternate flights.”
“There were 221 customers on DL295 and 56 customers on DL5526. At this time, no additional operational adjustments are expected. Delta is cooperating with the NTSB and other authorities on this incident,” the spokesperson said.

In a statement to ABC News, a spokesperson for the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport said: “There is minimal impact to airport operations.”
“Passengers from one of the aircraft are being bussed from the incident to the concourses,” the spokesperson told ABC News. “The second aircraft taxied under its own power to a concourse where passengers will deplane at their gate.”
A number of other social media users also shared images of the incident.
“Just watched two planes hit each other while one was taking off. CRAZY!” X user Talbot Cox wrote in a post.
Pete Muntean of CNN also shared images of the two planes and said, “DEVELOPING: Delta Air Lines tells me that two of its flights collided as both were taxiing for takeoff from Atlanta this morning.”

Aero Crew News wrote, “A Delta A350 has clipped a CRJ tail in Atlanta, appearing to total the aircraft. No major injuries are being reported at this time.”
